SAVE THE DATE! Kaibigan Kultura 2026/2025 Recap

By Jai Ann Saberon Redeaux

California State University Bakersfield’s Kaibigan Paso 2nd Annual Kultura Night took place within the campus multipurpose room on May 2nd, 2025. Through reservations made by incoming attendees and the efforts of club members, meals were provided: pancit, rice, lumpia, adobo, and mamon, to accompany guest speeches and performances. The Paso Modern Dance Team presented an energetic tinikling routine, budding musicians sang covers as well as their original work, and local artists showcased their pieces.
Moreover, we were honored to welcome our local Manong and FAHNS Delano Chapter member, Dominador Tomate, as a guest speaker to the event! Throughout his speech, he discussed the reality of young Filipino adults navigating the world amid the Vietnam War and the hardships of farmworkers fighting for wage rights. He emphasized the importance of youth continuing traditions, connecting to their roots, and finding comfort within their community.
Exploring history through the lens of those who lived through the era allows personal links to be made from the orator to listeners. Making connections with others through games, food, and individual commentary makes for a seamless transition into the roots of the culture. Anyone seeking to deepen their relationship with Filipino culture should attend Kaibigan Paso’s future events. Kultura Night is typically held in the CSUB campus during April or May, but following the organization on Instagram (@kaibiganpaso) is the best way to stay informed on community gatherings!
Date is tentatively set for May 2026. Details soon to come.
