Eduarda Mina passed away on April 23, 2020. She was a War-Bride from World War II. She arrived in Delano in 1954. Because of her humble beginnings, she never forgot others who followed in her path. She was an advocate for Filipino immigrants for over five decades. Eduarda helped many people get situated in housing, jobs, and education as they started a new life in America.

Each year three $500 scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors in Delano, California to help finance their intentions for higher education.

Applicants from Delano High School, Robert F. Kennedy High School, and Cesar E. Chavez High School must be an upcoming graduate with plans to enroll in college, university, business, vocational, or trade school in the Fall, have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above, and submit a personal essay.

Eduarda’s message, shared with her family and others, rings true for today’s graduates –
“Meet all hardships with love and education as the way to seek a better life”.

Her story is part of the early Delano Filipino American experience.
